The Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel provides the first solo exhibition by Francesc Sillue at the Iris Gallery. The opening will take place on Friday, December 23rd at 7:30
We speak of an artist with a wide geographical range. In 1959, Sillue, went to Paris where he began his most bohemian stage, entering in 1961 to join the group called "New Values" formed by the art critic Menendez Virilio, leading him to exhibit in several galleries in France. After several years, he moved to live in Norway and Sweden. Later exhibitions led him to the United States and Britain, where film artists such as Ginger Rogers and John Forsythe acquired several of his works. So Sillue is today a very popular artist in these countries, especially because of his urban creations. After his return to Catalonia he is installed in Sitges, where is considered as a referential artist in the Mediterranean city, up to the present day.
This is a complete artist who prefers to present his paintings in a figurative background, which at times approaches a smooth hyperrealism, although his technical capacity would allow him to approach other styles. He is, therefore, an artist with great technical ability who, however, avoids the use of complex pictorial resources for considering them easy to "trick" the viewer. So we speak of an artist with enough maturity and decision to be able to define the way that he presents his works.
However, the good observer will perceive that his figuration is based on a constructivist background, checkered, which goes almost unnoticed. This "camouflage" constructivism that form the buildings with its windows and the urban furniture, is the one that lays in most of his artworks and that shows that this is an artist with more than enough arguments to catch the eye of those more demanding.
His common themes are squares and corners of typical European cities, but as anxious observer, also portrays interiors, gardens, cafes, markets and people in them.
This is certainly an honor for Hotel del Arte to present this exhibition.
